How learners are exploring pathways today

Much of the learner decision-making process is now happening before providers ever see it.

This session shares emerging insights from across Aotearoa on how learners are discovering, comparing, and assessing their options, and how that is evolving.

We’ll cover:

• the current state of career guidance in schools, including how students are engaging with it today, and where changes are likely over the next 12 months
• how students are using AI tools to explore pathways, including what these tools are actually doing, where they are useful, and where they fall short or introduce risk for providers
• how larger providers (including polytechnics and universities) are starting to embed AI into their discovery and marketing, and the potential impact this may have on visibility and access for smaller providers and PTEs
• where learner interest is shifting across sectors, and what early exploration signals may indicate about future demand
• the growth of the career changer market, including how these learners are shortlisting, comparing, and making decisions under time and financial pressure

The session is intended to contribute to a clearer, shared understanding of how pathway exploration is evolving, and what that may mean for providers.
