General Manager Tertiary Policy, Te Pou Kaupapahere - Ministry of Education
Katrina Sutich is the General Manager of Tertiary and Evidence Policy, which is a policy group within Te Pou Kaupapahere, the Ministry of Education’s wider policy group.
Katrina has worked at the Ministry since early 2018 when she joined as policy manager responsible for vocational and skills policy. She moved into the role of General Manager for Tertiary Policy in 2020 in an acting capacity and transitioned to the expanded permanent role, which now also covers international education in the tertiary system along with a new evidence team, in April 2023. The policy group is responsible for policy settings relating to higher education, vocational education, foundation education and Kaupapa Māori education, including fees, funding and regulatory levers. The group is also responsible for producing data and insights relating to tertiary study, including participation, attainment and outcomes.
She has previously worked at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment in a range of policy areas including intellectual property, KiwiSaver, Retirement Savings and corporate governance. Earlier in her career she worked as a lawyer in New Zealand and the United Kingdom and has run her own business.
