Hagley Adult Literacy Centre
Hagley Adult Literacy Centre (HALC) provides literacy and numeracy support to adult learners across Christchurch. Classes are part time and government funded. We have 5 streams: Everyday English for those learning English as a second language (ESOL); Youth Literacy Pathways for young adults working towards NCEA L1; First Steps class for those with intellectual impairments; Community courses focusing on individual goals and skills; and Workplace tuition for those in the workforce wanting to improve literacy, numeracy, communication and workplace-related skills. HALC holds the national Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark (2022) – we work hard to meet the needs of learners with dyslexia and other learning challenges.
